The Number of Chinese Train Passengers Skyrocketed in the First Three Quarters of 2023


The number of passenger trips handled by China’s railway sector increased by 112.4 percent on an
annual basis (year on year/yoy) in the first three quarters of this year.


More than 2.93 billion passenger trips were made via the country’s railways in that period,
according to China’s Transport Ministry.


China’s rail network also carried around 3.74 billion tonnes of cargo in the same period, up 0.3
percent from a year earlier.


In the January-September 2023 period, fixed asset investment in China’s railway sector increased
7.1 percent compared to the same period last year to 508.9 billion yuan, according to the ministry’s
data.
