Chinese President, German Chancellor Discuss 50 Years of Bilateral Relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke via video call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss
the development of 50 years of China-Germany bilateral relations.

Noting that China-German relations have entered their second 50 years, Xi said as comprehensive
strategic partners, China and Germany have cooperated in the spirit of mutual benefit and grown
together in the spirit of mutual exchange and learning.

“This is a valuable experience of the smooth development of China-Germany relations over the
past decades, which should be appreciated and passed on by both sides,” Xi said.
He described China-German cooperation as open and pragmatic, which continues to be enriched
and developed.

Xi further mentioned that more than 130 German companies will participate in the sixth China
International Import Exhibition (CIIE), which, he said, shows German companies’ confidence in
China’s development.

It is hoped that the German side will also adhere to a high level of openness towards Chinese
companies seeking cooperation opportunities in Germany, Xi said.

During the conversation, Scholz explained the German side’s views on the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict and the Ukrainian crisis, and expressed his hope to continue to maintain close
communication with China.

Xi highlighted that resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukrainian crisis requires deeper
thinking on security issues, adherence to a comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable common
security vision, and enhanced development of a balanced, effective and sustainable security

“Suppressing the security space of other countries and supporting one side while ignoring the
legitimate demands of the other side will lead to regional imbalances and the expansion and
escalation of conflicts,” Xi said.

He added that China and Europe should work together to mediate conflicts, ease tensions and play
a positive role in promoting regional peace and development.
