Wang Shuang: Tottenham Sign China Midfielder from Racing Louisville

Tottenham have signed China midfielder Wang Shuang from Racing Louisville on a deal running to 2026.

The 28-year old will join Spurs when the transfer window opens on 1 January 2024, once her current contract ends.

An experienced international player, Wang has competed at three World Cups and earned 123 caps, scoring 46 goals.

The news came as Spurs’ rivals Leicester announced they have signed Japan midfielder Saori Takarada, 23, from Swedish side Linkoping FC.

Takarada, who has made 20 appearances for her country, will join the Foxes on 1 January after two years in Sweden’s top flight where she made 42 appearances and scored three goals.

Takarada said: “I’m very happy. It’s amazing. I’ve always wanted to play in England so there’s lots of excitement to be playing here in this stadium and with this team.”

Spurs’ new signing Wang spent a season with Paris St-Germain in 2018-19 and has won four Chinese Super League titles.

Wang won back-to-back Chinese titles with Dalian Quanjian in 2016 and 2017 before her season in France.

She then returned to China, where she won a further two titles with Wuhan Jianghan University in 2020 and 2021 before joining Racing Louisville in 2022.

On the international stage, Wang was the only player to score for her team at the summer World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, while she has won the Women’s Asian Cup as well as competing at the Olympics.
