China’s white paper report calls the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train one of the achievements of the Bamboo Curtain country.
This statement was contained in a white paper entitled, “A Global Community of Shared Future: China’s Proposals and Actions” which was released today, Tuesday (26/9). The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train is one of Indonesia and China’s projects in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) program.
“BRI originates from China, but the opportunities and achievements it produces belong to the whole world,” said a report from the white paper received by CNNIndonesia.com .
The report continued, “The Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train became the first train in Southeast Asia to reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.”
According to the report, once the train operates, the travel time from Jakarta to Bandung will only be 40 minutes. On a regular train the distance between these two cities can reach more than three hours.
In the report, China also showcased the success of other projects within the BRI framework, such as the China-Laos high-speed train, the China-Europe express train, and the Mombasa-Nairobi train.
The China-Laos Railway began operating on December 3, 2021. The construction of the railway line, they continued, created more than 110,000 local jobs, and helped build around 2,000 km of roads and canals for villages along the line.
“So that it provides many real and tangible benefits for local communities,” continued the report.
Apart from that, the white paper also states that the Mombasa-Nairobi railway adds around two percent to local economic growth.
On this occasion, China also emphasized that BRI is an economic cooperation initiative, not a geopolitical or military alliance. They also denied the program was to form an exclusive group of “Chinese clubs.”
BRI, he continued, has facilitated modernization efforts in developing countries, bringing the world into a new era of cross-continental cooperation.
“This is an open and inclusive process that does not target or exclude any party. The aim of the program is to help China and other countries around the world seize opportunities and pursue shared development.
