Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi received an official visit from the Chinese Prime Minister (PM) Li Qiang at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Friday (8/9/2023). PM Li met Jokowi after the 43rd ASEAN Summit which was held in Jakarta.
Based on Liputan6.com’s monitoring, PM Li Qiang arrived at the Jakarta Merdeka Palace at 09.58 WIB and was greeted directly by President Jokowi. After that, PM Li was greeted by a state welcoming ceremony where the Indonesian-Chinese anthem was sung.
Next, PM Li was invited into the Merdeka Palace to sign the guest book and have a group photo session. Jokowi then invited PM Li Qiang to a nearby gazebo in the backyard of the Merdeka Palace.
There, the two of them talked and laughed together. Then, Jokowi invited PM Li back into the Merdeka Palace for a bilateral meeting.
In this meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister of Investment/BKPN Bahlil Lahadalia, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Previously, President Jokowi opened the ASEAN-China Summit (Summit) at the JCC Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/9/2023). This summit was attended by leaders of ASEAN countries and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Jokowi said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of China’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. He also encouraged concrete cooperation that must be mutually beneficial.
“We need to interpret all of this by realizing concrete cooperation that is mutually beneficial,” said Jokowi as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat Youtube, Wednesday (6/9/2023).
According to him, this can only be done if ASEAN and China have trust in one another. In addition, Jokowi conveyed that this trust must be built and maintained by all parties for peace in the region.
“It is this trust and concrete cooperation that can be a positive force for regional stability and peace,” said Jokowi.
