President Xi Jinping Sends a Letter to the 6th CIIE

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a letter to the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE), which
officially opened in Shanghai on Sunday (5/11).

First held in 2018, the annual exhibition takes advantage of China’s huge market power, fulfills the
functions of its platform for international procurement, promotes investment and people-to-people
exchanges, open cooperation, and makes positive contributions to creating a new development
pattern and promoting world economic development, Xi said in his letter.

Noting that the world’s economic recovery lacks momentum and requires solidarity and cooperation
from all countries, Xi said that China will continue to create important opportunities for global
development. President Xi also promised that China will firmly promote high standards of openness and continue
to make economic globalization more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all.

Xi added that he hopes CIIE will serve better as an opportunity to push forward a new development
pattern that creates new opportunities for the world through China’s further development, and as a
high-standard opening platform that allows China’s huge market to be shared with the world.

Xi also expressed his hope that the CIIE will play a greater role in providing shared international
public goods and services that facilitate an open world economy and enable the world to benefit
from mutually beneficial cooperation.
