CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 10,853 new COVID-19 cases, 31 deaths

Taipei, Dec. 12 (CNA) Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 10,853 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, all but 29 of which were domestic cases, and 31 deaths from the disease.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director-General Chou Jih-haw (周志浩) said the cases reported Monday represented a 6-percent week-on-week increase, marking the fourth consecutive day with more cases than one week earlier.

However, this streak might mean that the pandemic has reached a stable stage, Chou said, adding that as the weather is turning colder, people are advised to stay warm and take measures, including receiving vaccine shots and avoiding crowded places, to protect themselves from the virus.

The deceased reported on Monday ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but two had underlying health conditions, while 15 of them had not gotten any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.

Meanwhile, the CECC reported eight cases classified as moderate and 23 as severe.
