Not America, China’s New Enemy Appears in Asia

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – India is taking big steps to expand its influence in Southeast Asia. This was touted as a move to allow countries to counter China’s dominance in the region.

“India is certainly getting more ambitious in Southeast Asia. There is no doubt about it,” said Harsh V. Pant, vice president for studies and foreign policy at the Observer Research Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank, as quoted by CNBC International, Monday (14 /8/2023).

“It’s also become stronger and more open about its relationship with the region,” he added.

Increasing competition between India and China is considered to have influenced New Delhi’s strategic calculations in strengthening its presence in the region.
